European Adventure: Prague

Prague is a gorgeous, well-preserved medieval city coupled with a rich history, Vegas-style nightlife, and a hint of romance which now holds a special place in my heart. The city’s essence — cobblestone streets, quaint medieval houses and incredible charm — is what makes Prague Prague.

Although Prague is a popular destination to visit while interrailing, it is also the perfect place for a quick city break or stag/hen party. With cheap food and drink, great tourist attraction's and an incredible nightlife, Prague is a city that should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

Explore the Old Town Square

Old Town Square is the place to be in Prague. It has tons of cafes, restaurants and bars to choose from and it is also where the famous Astronomical clock is located. The detail and artistry of the clock is definitely one of the most beautiful I have seen, but unfortunately the hourly chime that people line up for is anticlimactic. The clock is the most over-hyped attraction in Prague. Despite this, the tower in which the clock is on has the most spectacular view of Old Town Square and Prague City. The 200czk price tag and the thirty minute wait to get to the top is definitely worth it.

Prague Castle

This is one of the most popular sites in Prague. The castle, which looks over the city, consists of multiple sections—St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, The Story of Prague Castle, St. George’s Basilica, Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower, the Powder Tower, and Rosenberg Palace. You can purchase a ticket for any or all of these sites at the box office. The architecture of the castle is breathtaking and rivals that of Notre Dame. The stain glass windows inside the castle were a beautiful site.

Nightlife

The nightlife in Prague is one of the best I have experienced. Cocktail bars, music bars, karaoke bars, pub crawls, an ice pub and the largest nightclub in Central Europe, there is something for everyone. The Prague Official Pub Crawl was my favourite part of the entire trip, so much so that we did it twice. The first hour is free drinks — wine, beer, cranberry vodka shots and absinthe shots — plus a free entry shot into every bar, finishing up in the largest nightclub with five floors (the oldies floor was 100% the best), all for only 500czk. As there are so many inter-railers who visit Prague, the pub crawl is the best way to meet new people. If you are planning on visiting Prague, Coyote Bar in Old Town Square is a must. Based on the movie Coyote Ugly, this bar has great food, cocktails and an electric atmosphere.

Other attractions to see are:

The John Lennon Wall
Petrin Park
Dancing House
The Jewish Quarter

Prague is the city to get happily lost in. Meander its winding streets and find restaurants, churches and markets.
